Survivor Gabon-GC Makes It Known

I was highly disappointed when I read on the MSN homepage an article titled-Survivor Secrets Revealed. It revealed that the cast of survivors, and they shall be called cast here, are mostly made up of actors wannabes, so called mactors. The article cried that there were too few quality applicants to choose from so out goes a casting call for survivors. So ya mean to tell me that the nutty professor is really a wannabe be actor? I can definitely see Ace or Sugar in that line up, but gamer boy? I would suspect that CBS gets thousands of applications for Survivor, why I know one guy from work who put in his application at least 4 times and he's a perfect candidate, being a trainer and world poker champ wannabe and he's never gotten a call back. What would a perfect CBS survivor be, cute, boobs, A-type personality, aren't we all wannabe actors at heart anyway? They did say that only 1 person was not a mactor on this season's Gabon, my guess, shy Susie, has she even said two words during this entire season?

The reward challenge of hitting fruits with bats proved once again out of reach for the Fang tribe and they lose the reward of herbs and fruits, but then again isn't seeing an elephant up close and personal reward enough? It's back to the Sugar Shack for Sugar and like I said before, she's got the best gig of all, fruits and an hammock, what more could you ask for in the wild? Hey did I see Marcus give Charlie a kiss on the cheek, a tender brokeback moment after winning the reward? This episode's immunity challenge is to roll a large ball of wood down a hill while blindfolded survivors try to keep the ball out of the other other tribe's goal. Who decided to put Sugar (doesn't she remind you of a Drew Barrymore?) as the person giving directions for a blindfolded Ace? Two words for her performance her, she blew. Did she think he would get her directions telepathically? I'm surprised others on her tribe didn't out her for that. I was hoping that Fang would win the immunity challenge, since Fang has been beaten down. Back at camp, Crystal is finally playing the game and decides that Sugar must have the idol which she finds in Sugar's pack. Now Crystal said the most definitive words of the season, to get rid of Sugar now in a blindside since she has the idol and is a real danger. Apparently she has little weight, or the others thought putting up with GC's whining the greater danger and they vote to extinguish his torch-one word for them-FOOLS-let see idol or whining? For GC, someone who looked like he could have used a million dollars, he could dish it, but he sure couldn't take it. GC grow a set, you have to fight for the things you want, one word for him crybaby. -Single D

Project Runway-Finale

Well, I guess Double D was right when she read that the three to Bryant Park were girls. This would be the first time 3 ladies held that distinction even though I still can't stand Kenley being in the top three. She's still ranting on about how the judges accused her 4 times, yep, 4 times of copycatting other designers style. She acts like she doesn't know what they are talking about. Oh yes she does! That mother goose wedding gown was just too eerily similar to that McQueen wedding dress and I don't even know who McQueen is, just saw a picture of his gown. Tim suggests not to do the wedding gown thing on the runway, but Kenley spouts something about being the designer being the decider in that nasally nasty way that she has about her, wa wa! You could so tell that when Tim went on to Korto he was relieved to have cordial banter with a nice polite human being. Korto is thankfully dismantling her awful wedding gown and making two new outfits. Cut to Kenley sneering that Leanne's collection looks like Holly Hobby. Well, her collection doesn't look Holly Hobby, just Leanne. Doesn't that girl ever wash her hair. It's so stringy and limp, you'd think the TREsseme professionals would grab her, tie her down and wash that hair! Leanne meanwhile is dressing a model who brings her dog into the studio who is pooping, not fabric but doggie turds or as Jeff (my co-worker) would say making a grossen poopen. When that dog was allowed in the studio, I just knew poop or pee would fly.
At the fashion show, Heidi looked amazing as usual. Here she announces that Jennifer Lopez was to be the guest judge but hurt her foot so in her stead, Tim Gunn was to be the guest judge. Hum, a hurt foot how would that be a factor in judging the runway? Tim graciously points out that he will not let his associations with the designers cloud his judgment, meaning Kenley you're out! Kenley is the first to show and walks on stage in a Holly Hobby dress fit for a twelve year old and sprouting a display of green leaves from her head, which I'm sure is a Kenley original. I thought her collection wasn't all that bad and I did love that beige number with the hand painted flowers down one side, but once again, Michael Kors pointed out that one dress was eerily similar to another designer, more protest from Kenley ensued.
Korto next on the runway exhibiting a collection of colorful outfits which I thought were very pretty and I did like the ethnic touches. Leanne's collection of folds, pleats or as Michael Kors called them petals, were a little overdone. Why did every outfit have to have those petals, Petals Marshall? (Kors said it sounded like a stripper name). Do you know how to get your stripper name? Your pet's name when you were a child and the street that you lived on. Mine was Suzy G!
Anyway, I was so hoping that Korto would win, I mean she is older, has a family and could really design clothes for the everyday woman. How many women are going to wear those petal thingy's of Leanne's? I should be happy that Kenley didn't win, maybe she should develop a line of sailor clothes since she is in love with rope and all that. Now maybe Leanne can afford getting that haircut and a makeover.-Single D

Reality Check-How We Treat the Animals We Eat-Oprah Show

While watching the Oprah show today, I listened to a man tell a story which captured my attention and pulled at my heart. Today's subject on the Oprah's show was How We Treat the Animals We Eat. I knew deep down inside I didn't want to know or acknowledge how the bacon I love came to grace my breakfast table or how the beef patties met it's death. I didn't want to see horrifying scenes reminiscent of the KFC debacle of chickens being slammed to death or cows slipping under the throes of mad cow disease. In the audience there was a man who owned a farm. He related a story of how when he was a kid growing up on his parent's farm where they raised geese, one of his chores was to catch a geese for slaughter. The flocks of geese would run in sheer terror into the barn where he would eventually catch the unlucky goose. As he carried the goose out of the barn, he would be chased by a sole goose bravely running after him in defiance in defense of the partner he had by the wings. This vivid picture tugged at my heart, as I have previously written of my fond memories by the shore of Lake Tahoe feeding the Canadian geese that would make their way around the shore knowing which neighbors would have bread ready. I would see groups of geese but always knew who was paired with whom. Occasionally there would be the solitary goose, a partnerless creature who lost it's mate and was like a third wheel on a date. I always had hopes that those solitary geese would find another love, another partner. So when this confessed geese catcher realized as a child that the geese had personalities and social behaviors, he became involved in the human treatment of farm animals as a farmer. And so as I continued to watch the show and the treatment of the pigs, cows and chickens in pens so small that they can't turn around, I found myself horrified and sadden. The knowledge of calves in pens all their short lives (for this reason I have always boycotted veal), fed a liquid diet, weaken in muscle and diseased sicken me with the thought that it was all for the sake of veal scallopini . Have we as a nation forgotten that the food that sustains us also have intelligence and are social animals just like us? Have we lost our consciousness for the sake of the almighty dollar? I know we will always have the animals as a food source, but at least can't we treat them with dignity and respect for what they do for us? I vowed as I watched it that I would try to support the free range and cage free animal products and support the small farmers that are trying to make a difference and hold to a higher standard. I still love a good steak, will eat my eggs at breakfast and who knows maybe eat one less pound of bacon a week!-Single D

Amazing Race-Technical Mistake Costly in La Paz

Oh my, controversy and drama unfolds as Christy accuses Starr of throwing her sports bra over the railing, which of course Starr flatly denies. What does this have to do with racing? Well obviously it's hard to race without your sports bra. Hopefully she has a backup? The next stop on this leg of the race is the 12,000 ft city of La Paz Bolivia. When they all arrive, it's sleeping on the street like the homeless. Next day, it's brushing teeth and putting on makeup outside. You'd think a good night sleep on the street would put aside the bragate, but Christy is still going on about it. The next clue found in the local newspaper would be to find a hat shop for their next clue. This challenge is either musical marching farm band or a bumpy ride. I think I would have chosen the bumpy ride, because anything saying to ride is better than marching and those farmers were marching so slow! I guess it was siesta time for them. I would have been pulling my hair out if I had chosen that task. Once again a lesson in reading your clue is critical as Terence and Sarah realized once they were in their cab on the way to their detour. Sarah soon realizes that they were supposed to go on foot, so they back track to their starting point. Good move on their part. Unfortunately, Mark and Bill were not so lucky. This challenge, the bikes were the way to go unless you took a wipe out on it like Christy did. That looked like it had to hurt but, hey it's just a bike, however wooden and strange. Hey was that Terence blowing his whistle? When Nick and Starr passed Aja and Ty they asked them to pull a U-turn on Christy and Kelly, what's up with that? Let someone else do your dirty work? Thankfully, Aja and Ty have more sense than that to play someone else's game. The detour was to fight a Cholita (a plump Bolivian woman) in a wrestling rink. It was really funny to see everyone dressed like superheroes. At one point the whole episode looked like some Keystone Cop movie, yeah I know for those of you out there, Keystone? Dallas looked hot in his yellow leotard and again mother and son pull ahead, although mom labored under the altitude while doing the bike challenge. Mark on the other hand had serious issues with it and had to be on oxygen and almost passed out in the rink. His age was showing. First to the pit stop again, Ken and Tina, (did ya notice Tina doesn't have any eyebrows?). Mother and son Dallas make a surge to #2 (my favorites to win) and unfortunately, the lack of ciphering clues better, made Mark and Bill incur a 30 minute penalty while last place team, Kelly and Christy cross the finish line before their penalty time was up. I was holding my breath thinking maybe this was a non-elimination round, but there was no saving Mark and Bill from their costly mistake and were eliminated. Just goes to show you, as I have said before reading the clue is critical. Sorry to see them go, but I really wanted Kelly and Christy to stay on to see if the rivalry escalates between them and Starr, drama and traveling what more can one ask for!-Single D

What No Halloween?

Last year when my daughter said that she might not want to go Trick or Treating, I ignored this statement thinking what does a 9 year old know of making memories that will last a lifetime? This year, she is making this statement with more veracity and frequency so much so, that this time I had to squash that thought once and for all. What no Halloween I said? No, maybe I'll give candy this year, she said. What? You'll have an entire decades to give candy once you hit teendom I counter. But I don't like Halloween she says! What! What kid doesn't like Halloween? What's not to like? The one time of year when your parents let you dress up in crazy outfits, gives in to that red glitter hair spray and black nail polish, and lets you eat all the candy you want? But I don't like the spookiness of it all, she whines! Get tough I counter! All this while I fondly reminisce of Halloweens past. At our house, we always eat a dinner that is quick to prepare and quick to stuff down so we can be out the door before the first trick or treaters ring our bell. We always look for the crowds of kids so our daughter and her friends will have a gang to run with. We always insist on going to each and every house that have decorations or lights. We always carry extra plastic grocery bags should her bag get too heavy with candy, which is a sure indication that we are in the money! And we always, always go to every adjacent neighborhood near our house, never quite happy until we have filled our bags brimming with candy, even if our dogs (feet) hurt! When we come home, exhausted with the delirium of collecting sweets, we empty our booty on the dining room table and do the candy selection. This time honored tradition I'm sure is played out in every house across America. A careful process of selecting which candies we like the best, throwing out the hard cheap stuff and piling our treasures in our respective piles. Madison likes Snickers and Milky Ways. Andy likes anything chocolate and me I like laffy taffy in any flavor except grape. My daughter says that grape is the most disgusting flavor in the universe. So when my daughter says, no trick or treating this year, we say, not in your life! Where else can I get to wear my pink wig, daddy his skeleton shirt and eat free candy till Easter!-Single D

Survivor Gabon-New Tribes

Ok, last night my daughter said she needed to watch the TV in the family room (it has a vcr) so I had to watch Survivor on the big screen in HD. All I can say is Wow! It was like watching Planet Earth. Every crusty piece of dirt can be seen on the survivors, like gamer boy being all bitten up by bugs all over his body. Hope he got his malaria shots! Finally on Fong tribe there is an alliance forming between gamer boy, Crystal, Matty and Dan. But too little too late as there is a call to meet with Jeff Probst. He tells the tribes to rank each member of their group 1 being the best 8 being the least favorite, ouch! Just like high school. I was surprised that Professor Bob wasn't ranked first on the Kota tribe but that honor was given to Marcus. Randy was snug in his third place ranking on the Fong tribe with poor Susan bringing up the rear. I guess old people don't have a chance on these reality shows. Once ranked, Jeff tells them the unsettling news that they will be splitting into two new tribes with Marcus and Matty leading picks. Last one standing was poor Sugar and again she was sent to exile to await a spot on a tribe that will be sent to tribal council. I was really shocked that gamer boy had the good sense not to chose the one Ace wanted and chose Kelly instead. Just goes to show that gamer boy does have a brain after all! Maybe playing video games isn't all that bad as my daughter keeps trying to tell me. Meanwhile, Sugar on exile is enjoying her comfort time in the Sugar shack for a 4 day retreat. How nice! I think she got the best deal of all. The survivors in the immunity water polo challenge were totally useless. They could have been legless and armless for all this challenge was worth. The only one who could do anything was Marcus, go figure, looks and brawn! Yum! I always use one word when I am correcting a story or paragraph that my daughter has badly written, that word would apply here when describing Fong's attempt to win-WEAK! What is the matter with those guys! Back at camp, GC does alot of talking smack, especially calling out Kelly's ineffective playing, when GC's the one who always gives up. The Survivor's trailer was like the three blonds pitted against each other which failed to live up to the hype. At tribal council, Crystal got her head in a z snap when she tried to defend her game playing. Oh hello! Looked like Crystal did alot of sitting on the sidelines to me. Oh that girl can get in your face! In the end, I think it was a good move to vote Jackie out, since now gamer boy can say they saved Kelly and hopefully salvage Fong when Sugar comes back and aligns with Ace and the immunity idol.-Single D

Project Runway-My Gawd-Is Kenley Still There?

I had this recurring dream er more like a nightmare. I'm watching Project Runway and thinking with every episode that Kenley is eliminated only to find her at the runway show with Heidi exclaiming that some feathery thing she concocted was crazy good. Oh my God! Was that for real?! Yep it was little doggie. She's still there with her spanky attitude in check (spanky is Korto's word for her). One hitch to progressing on to Bryant Park is to create a wedding gown and bridesmaid dress for the elimination round. $8,000 dollars and a month later we find the designers at home when Tim comes to call. Can you imagine that Korto lives in Arkansas? Poor thing. And what perfect place should we find Leanne at? Why Oregon of course. I just knew she had to be some sort of borderline tree hugging girl of nature, which she says her inspiration was the waves on the ocean. Seems nice, but must every garment have those same pleats? Didn't her boyfriend look like some sort of nerdy English professor? And of course Kenley would be where else, Brooklyn. When Tim made the stop at Jerrell's to see his collection, I thought he was stopping at a costume shop. What was up with all this glitter and trashy glam? I knew right there Jerrell was not going to make it. I did feel bad since his mama has so much faith in him.
When the designers come back to NY, I loved the cool reception that Kenley got. Everyone before were like hugging and kissing after not seeing each other for a month, but when Kenley entered a cold frosty wind swept through. I think Jerrell was the only one to say hi. Things did melt a bit after Kenley apologized, but that still doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy. I totally hate to admit it, but I did like her swan hatching from an egg wedding dress even if it looked like a copy of some other designer and if she did plagiarize, shouldn't she be packing her bags? Her little navy bridesmaid dress was too cute and I just hate saying that! By far the best wedding dress was Leanne's. It was a dreamy concoction of layered folds of clouds of whipped cream. I think the contest will be between Kenley and Leanne. Some of Korto's outfits have missed the mark especially her wedding dress which was more like Oscar gown gone wrong. And Jerrell's sloppy Cinderella flower pot dress was just two words-God Auful! And with that Jerrell was aufed! Hey does Jerrell still get to show at Bryant Park since there are pictures of him and his collection on Bravo? -Single D

Ghost Hunters - Florida

TAPS goes to the Sunshine State for this episode. First up is the Seven Sisters Inn in Ocala, FL. There are two buildings to the inn, the purple house and the pink house, and it is built on a Seminole Indian battle ground. Sounds like a hot spot to me! Reports are the usual full body apparitions along with shadow people and objects moving. One of the employees says she saw a man sitting in a chair and when she turned around he was gone but came back and picked up the chair and threw it over her head. Then she tells a story of when she tripped down the stairs when something grabbed her shirt and hauled her back up the stairs. I'm thinking she is hitting the bottle at work!
J & G are in the purple house for a couple of minutes when they hear footsteps and whispering. They have their trusty K2 meter and something keeps lighting it up in response to Jason asking it to light it up. They send in Kris & Tango who also hear the footsteps right away.
In the pink house, Jason takes off his flip flops at the bottom of the stairs to see if he can whatever it is to push him down the stairs. At the top of the stairs, he sees a shadow dart past him. There have been reports of a small child seen at the top of the stairs. Jason comes back down to put on his flip flops and finds one of them missing. J & G search the whole house and finally find the wayward flip flop in the middle of the last room they search. Looks like the shadow kid wanted to play hide and seek.
That was pretty much it at the inn. Nothing was found on audio or video but Jason still says there is "something" going on.
It's on to St. Petersburg, FL and the Renaissance Vinoy Resort. Built in 1925 this was the "in" place to stay for the stars. Now, major league baseball players who play the Tampa Bay Rays stay here. The ball players all refuse to stay on the fifth floor unless they buddy up. Some reports are full body apparitions and footsteps in the ballroom. The team is able to spend the night on the fifth floor without any other guests which will make their investigation much easier.
Jason takes a room that has had the most activity. As they are checking their camera hookups, Jason notices the closet door in his room is open. After rewinding the tape, they find that the ironing board had fallen opening the closet door. Now they couldn't leave it alone so J & G go to the room and test the ironing board. Grant gets in the closet and tips the board against the door, it doesn't open. Not until Grant gives the ironing board a good shove does it finally open the door. They both agree it could not have done that on it's own.
Jason's room continues to be active through the night. He hears voices which wake him up. The voices are caught on tape and Jason says it sound like "just leave here." That probably would have done it for me! The team says that whatever is there isn't dangerous but just wants it's presence known. Double D

Dancing with the Stars-Fake Boobs, Underwear and Broken Ankles

Ok, did anyone take notice the other night of Susan Lucci's obviously enormously fake bosoms? They were the dominate feature of her outfit and of her dance that my daughter said I can't stop looking at them (and she's 10). I said yeah I know. The twin sisters were just too prominent to miss and competed for air time. Yep, they won. What a bad boob job and she can afford the best. If I were her I'd want a refund. They even mesmerized the judges, especially Len, that dirty old man! Speaking of Len, he is getting on my last nerve. He has beaten down one of the better teams of Lacey and Lance so much, that their routine was so whitewashed and insipid I was like who are these people? I love, love, love Lacey's style and her routines are fresh and contemporary, but they succumbed to Len's critical comments and tried to dance the way he wanted, only for him to come back and say that Lance was clopping around flat footed. No winning for trying, I say, do your own thing girl! I don't think Cloris Leachman will get eliminated. We just want to keep her around for the entertainment value. But please can we not see anymore crotch shots with her legs up over her head! That is just wrong. Poor Cloris, Corky throws her around like she weighs a ton, a sack of dead weight. She's about as light as a sinking ship. Cloris and Corky, sounds like a morning talk show.
My daughter really liked Cody Linley's hair although I think he looks too young like he's all of what twelve? He's way too young looking and way too skinny. Poor Julianne, she probably weighs more that he does. He dances alright, but he just doesn't do it for me. He's still in potty training.
Football player, Warren Sapp is so light on his feet. He's like an elephant in a tutu. When I see him dance it's like watching Disney's Fantasia all over again. Not to mention that he's just downright lovable. I'm surprised there aren't Warren Sapp teddy bears yet.
Misty May had to bow out of the competition after snapping her Achilles tendon. When they did the replay of the practice you could hear it actually snap like a bony twig. Well, being the athlete that she is, I don't think she had a chance of winning. She was just all legs and lean stiff torso, good for volleyball, but not for the dance floor. My only dismay is that Maxim will not be dancing and I just love to watch him. He's so charming, I could watch him all evening, sigh!
Brooke Burke proved that she's perfect again! Hate her! I'm sure she's already looking for a place to hang that mirror ball in her house. -Single D

Apprentice UK - Update

Apparently CNBC has opted to drop The Apprentice UK for Deal or No Deal. Now I ask you, what is more exciting, watching people pick suitcases or watching people back stab, throw each other under that proverbial bus and generally make fools of themselves?! I know which one I want to see. So I'm mad at CNBC for getting our appetites wet for The Apprentice then dropping it. If anyone out there has seen it online, please let me know because it would be such a let down to just go online to see who the winner was without seeing how they got there. Double D

Amazing Race-Dimwits in Brazil

There are three teams that are emerging in my book as the front runners for the title of teams you love to hate. First ones-Terence and Sarah, mostly him. Girl lose the jerk quick! He's demanding, needy and just downright obnoxious. Even when she tries to talk to another team he considers it a betrayal. What is she going to do in real life, never speak to another human again? I secretly loved it when Terence got them lost looking for the taxi stand. Shall we buy some ice cream he says? The other team, who else? Tina and ex hubby Ken. Now I know why they divorced each other, neither one is a prize, maybe they really do deserve each other. Tina was getting on my last nerve when she had to tell the entire country of Brazil that she was responsible for the airline getting a larger plane. Yep, I just said, supersize it! I loved it when Terence said, yeah right! Third place goes to the snotty nose brother and sister team of Nick and Starr. He wins this distinction for telling nerdie boy Andrew that he would be back to help him (at the wall) but then dashes off. I know it's a race but don't promise what you can't keep. Nick reminds of the bratty jock kid in high school who always picked a fight with the geeks on the playground. The surprise team of this episode was the adult nerd herd of Mark and Bill. I kept thinking, oh no not the container challenge, that has got to be like finding a needle in a haystack. Mark and Bill rulers supreme of the computer make quick time on the computer's database to find the serial number to the container they needed to find. Now I'm thinking, this is where they will get hopelessly behind, not! They managed to find the container and the clue and were actually the first ones done with the challenge and in a taxi on their way to their next stop. Nerds rule the world or at least in this case Brazil. One team that managed to live up to their image of ditsy ding dongs, were Kelly and Christy. I'm wondering how much time did they really waste trying to find a container in the sand after they finished the challenge of beach it? Um, hello! You need to go back to class and take Reading Clues 101. The Miss Congeniality team was the mother-son team of Dallas and Toni, snap! When all the taxis were whizzing by poor pathetically lost Terence and Sarah, I was like don't you dare stop! When Dallas stopped his cab, I thought he was going to share the ride, but didn't whew! At least he told them where they were supposed to pick up their cab. That was so nice, he's such a good boy! Unfortunately Anthony and Step were eliminated. They really didn't seemed to be in any hurry. Come on guys, this is a race for a cool million. When Anthony tried pushing the cab to pop the clutch, I would have been in another cab racing for the next stop without him. And when he was at the wall to find the clue, he should have make quick work of it but he kept scratching his head and like everyone else making it much more difficult than it really was. I guess no one speaks Spanish, because the clue was the next place they would be going. Guess no one knew what cuidad was? Isn't Spanish 101 a requirement to graduate from high school? Well, at least Anthony felt like he can appreciate his life more after seeing the poverty in Brazil. He says, I have my health, my family, my girlfriend, and my good looks...um shoulda left the good looks part out!-Single D

Survivor-Gabon-Po Paloma

Ok can I say one thing about GC. I was really rooting for the kid, but he brought his ghetto self to Gabon, instead of his survivor self. At first I knew where he was coming from not wanting to be the leader and all, but to act like he just doesn't give a damn about anyone else really puts a big target on his back. He needs to lay low, especially since he's about as useful as Gillian was on the challenges.
The reward challenge is to have one from each tribe hold on to a pole for dear life while the opposite tribe try to pull them off and drag them to the finish line. I thought for sure the Fong tribe would lose again especially when GC gave up trying to pry Ace off the pole. Who could blame him though. Looked like Ace was striking his yoga pose and in a state of meditation during the whole thing while holding on with an iron grip. Round two Ace chooses Paloma to pole sit. I wonder what his motivation was for that since she weighs all of 90 pounds? Crystal and Randy attack her with single minded determination and easily removed her from her post. Round three Fong is finally using it's brain choosing Crystal and Matty to do the pulling. If GC would have been up there, they surely would have lost. It was a much needed victory for the Fong tribe and took little time deciding who to send to exile island why Sugar of course. Ok, I'm thinking Sugar is your typical Bimbo, but I have to take back everything bad I thought about her. While on exile island, she manages to battle ants, forge through the woods, dig in a sandy crater and wade through scary water to eventually find the hidden immunity idol. Good job, now if she can only keep that to herself.
The immunity challenge involved a slip slide. Hey, lately it seems the slip slide is popular with reality show challenges. There was a slip slide challenge on the Biggest Loser. Ok let's be honest, seeing fat people propel down a long slip slide was hysterical. Weight times mass equals alot of speed, so when they propelled themselves down they were going so fast I thought they were going to land on the freeway below!
The survivor slip slide challenge was not that funny and again the Fong tribe finds themselves behind Kota. Surely, the nutty professor could figure out the riddle to solve the code, but the gamer managed to come from behind and crack the code first. Good job. I really did want Kota to go to tribal council, they need to be humbled. Of course Sugar couldn't keep the secret that she found the hidden idol to Ace. Poor little Paloma, she didn't take the course on how to make friends and keep yourself off the block lesson and was snuffed out at Tribal Council. -

Project Runway-And Then There Were Four

Kenley is still griping about how Leanne sabotaged her outfit on the runway. Oh come on, there's just no making a silk purse out of a cow's ear. Leanne is about as modelish as an elephant in a tutu. Not to mention that the outfit itself was so hideous. Tim takes the designers on a field trip to the New York's Botanical Gardens for their next challenge, an evening gown inspired by nature. Everyone gets a camera to snap pictures for their inspiration. I'm wondering do they get to keep the camera? I love free things! On their shopping trip to Mood, Kenley forgets her tulle, aw shucks. Back at the studio, Kenley realizes that she doesn't have her tulle. I am momentarily happy with that misfortune. Why is it during these shows, we want the divas to suffer? Jerrell and Korto are like, she's not getting mine! Well hey, this is a contest after all. I was greatly disappointed when Tim said she could go back to Mood and retrieve her lost bag. Dang! I was hoping Tim would say sorry, hollatchaboy. I pretty much thought all the dresses sucked. When Jerrell was buying his fabric at Mood, I'm like thinking those fabric pieces don't go together. The colors were awful. His dress looked like it was going to fall down off the model. Korto's dress was a total disappointment. Looked like slices of cantaloupe. Leanne's soft purple dress was the best one, but once again a stray swag of dark blue fabric was pooping out the back. Kenley again is just so over the top about her dress, thinking that it matches the photo of the flowers. Hello? Her dress resembled everything but botanical. Let see a few words come to mind, like reptilian, the shedding of snake skin, mermaid, dolphin, lobster tail name a few. When Heidi said to Kenley that it wasn't very elegant, Kenley shoots back that she wasn't going for elegant. Kenley would contradict anything anyone would say. If Heidi said it was beautiful, Kenley would say it's crap that I was going for. Come on, I wanted a cat fight! I wanted Heidi to get up out of that director's seat and slap Kenley silly. Heidi should have let loose on her. Meanwhile, Kenley feels the heat of being ostracized from the group especially when the judges asked each one who they wanted with them at Bryant Park and everyone excluded Kenley. Waaa, everyone hates me, no one loves me! Get a clue. She says that has happened all her life, well duh, maybe it's the way you come off, like your sh*t doesn't stink and holier than thou attitude! In the final analysis, the judges opted to keep the four of them with one being eliminated before Bryant Park like last year when lovable Chris March was eliminated then. It will be interesting to see Kenley's collection of I Love Lucy outfits. Well we can only hope that Jerrell, Korto and Leanne step up their game and out do the princess of conceit. -Single D

Reality Check-Real recipes

As an avid foodie from way back when, when we used to own our own cafe in San Francisco to now just being the plain mom in the kitchen and loyal Food Network fan, there are many recipes that I have tested and tried out on my unsuspecting family and friends. And it is here that I will try occasionally to share these successful and not so successful dishes. Life would have been so much easier back when with the advent of real cooking shows and food network websites. Last year I was given a cookbook for Christmas. I love it but I was a little baffled by it. Do they still publish cookbooks? It was Barefoot Contessa at Home cookbook which I love, but with the proliferation of recipe websites, who needs cookbooks? I have to admit, I love looking at the pictures, but in reality, I still head for the computer for many recipes. I still have my favorite cookbooks in my repertoire, like Martha Stewart's cookbooks and the standard, Fannie Farmer with a couple of Wolfgang Puck's thrown in. Mostly, I have tossed many cookbooks out.
One of my favorite chicken recipes comes from the Barefoot Contessa, Ina Garten. You can so tell she loves her food! Lucky husband Jeffery, he comes home on the weekends to her cooking. Ina is my favorite Food Network chef who got her start by being friends with Martha Stewart. Hum, I wonder if they're still friends? Anyway, this is an easy recipe, make the marinade in the morning and let the chicken marinade in it all day, then for dinner cook it up. Everyone will think you slaved all day! Just a small disclaimer-I do tend to just throw the ingredients together-so some times the portions might be a smidgen off, but that's the spontaneous cook in me. For me it's not a science, it's just real cooking.
Indonesian Chicken:
I usually use a 2lb package of chicken thighs (my daughter only likes dark meat)
For the marinade:
Pour 1 cup of honey and 3/4 cup of soy sauce (I use light) into a sauce pan-heat until honey is liquefied-remove from heat
Add 8 to 10 cloves of garlic chopped finely
Grate one or two toes of fresh ginger root (you know how ginger looks like toes in the grocery store?) into pan.
Place chicken in baking pan and pour marinade over chicken. Let marinade for at least 4 hours in fridge.
Preheat oven to 350, pour off some of the marinade in a small bowl for basting, cook chicken until done around 45 minutes brushing sauce over chicken.
The picture of the dish above looks much drier (from Food Network), my chicken usually comes out brown with lots of delicious sauce.
Serve with rice and vegetables-chow bella!

Ghost Hunters - Buffalo, NY

The Buffalo Central Terminal in, where else, Buffalo, NY is the site of this week's investigation. Closed in 1979, the terminal is currently undergoing renovations. The are alot of reports of activity here including a phantom water cooler with people standing around. It's nice to know we can carry on our water cooler talks in the after life! The head of the building committee, Tracy, gives the team a tour. I have only one thing to say to Tracy, foundation garments! You know you are going to be on national TV wouldn't you wear a bra? Tracy tells the TAPS team that a man named Tony Fidely (not sure about the spelling of the last name) who loved the place so much that he bought it and lived in an apartment on the 3rd floor until he died.
Back to the investigation. It's a cloudy rainy night which makes the terminal that much creepier. On the 3rd floor, J & G hear voices and footsteps. They set up the thermal camera and a tape recorder leave both to catch whatever they can. They come back a little later to investigate Tony's apartment and they hear a voice which was also audible on TV then Jason sees a shadow and both think it's not friendly. They then go into a room off the main concourse to do EVP and K2 work and find themselves "chatting" with a woman who is waiting for someone to arrive by train. Apparently she thinks it's the 1940's. She's been waiting a long time!
Steve and Tango do EVP work in the rotunda room. I liked how Tango tried to dust off one of the steps before he sat down. I don't think it helped. Meanwhile, J & G are watching the monitors when they hear a man yell from the vicinity of the set up thermal cam and recorder. Grant runs to get the tape and hears an eerie voice saying "go home".
During the review, the team hears the "go home" voice loud and clear. They also pick up another voice saying what appears to be "bring back the girls". Maybe they are hanging around that water cooler. They also pick up a figure on the thermal cam in the area of the water cooler.
J & G tell Tracy there seems to be a great deal of paranormal activity in the terminal but stop short of saying it is haunted. I'm going to visit the water cooler now. Double D
