American Idol-Season 10

Can I say one thing, if Snow White had 12 dwarfs, they would look like the male contestants on last night's American Idol. What a motley assorted hairy odd balls. Sure some of their singing sounds great if you are not looking at them. What's up with that scrawny red head who kept whipping his hair back and forth, he whips his hair back and forth (taking lessons from Willow Smith). Another guy's mouth is so small, can he stuff a hot dog in it? Another train wreck one can't stop looking at is Steven Tyler. He's is so Odd, capital ODD! He looks like some old English Grand Dame.
Let's hope the girls look better tonight!

The New American Idol

First it was Paula, the ditsy drunk we loved to watch, stumbling over her words and ribbing with Simon, that left the show, but when Simon Cowell gave his notice, essentially turning down a king's ransom of 130 million dollars to come back, I was like, American Idol will never be the same without Simon Cowell's cruelly honest opinion. Who would tell the no talents that they have NO TALENT! Who would say "That was God awful". "Who would say that sounded like my cat wailing"? And whose praise will the contestants revere more? I've never really liked the auditioning part of American Idol so I usually skip it until the real competition begins, however, I was curious about JLo and Mr. Big Lips, Steven Tyler (not really an Aerosmith fan). This season we are seeing a gentler, softer side of American Idol, dud, now that Simon is gone, there is no one there to shoot straight from the mouth, which is totally BORING! JLo doesn't want to hurt anyone's feeling and Steven Tyler is looking for his next girlfriend. The only thing that will keep America watching will be the contestants themselves, which for the past few seasons, really sucked. I do have to say that Jennifer Lopez is gorgeous! No one should look that good, so polished, sparkly and fresh. As for Steven, he's just odd odd odd looking and reminds me of a grand dame with a bad facelift. As for the dawg Randy Jackson, he's kinda taken a back seat to their fame, but I think he still holds a sweet spot for American Idol's fans.
Has anyone watched Afghan Idol? No bright lights, no hi tech million dollar sound stage, no recording contract. Just bragging rights and $5,000 which I am sure is a small fortune there. I watched about an hour of this documentary of the five finalist 3 men and 2 women. It was riveting up to a point. How long can one listen to songs in Afghanistan about love "You are Hindu and I am Muslim" (seriously those were the lyrics of one song in subtitles). On the night of they voted for the 5 finalist, which by the way the entire country votes by cell phones, the sound equipment cables were held together by duck tape, the small stage lit by cheesy neon lights. The men wore cheap suits and the women came out in mismatched burkas (no veils). I was surprised by the ages of the women who were 22 and 24 but looked so much older. The men, dark haired and looked like they were from Mongolia or Asia. Each told a story of their life in a very harsh war torn country. Since I didn't catch the end of Afghan Idol, I googled the winner, it was the woman Setara who now is in hiding because she is afraid of death threats made against her for winning in a male dominated country driven by hate and prejudice. Maybe this season's winner of our American Idol will watch it and count their blessings. Single D

Two Finales-One Conclusion

Two of what used to be my favorite shows are coming to a anti-climatic finish. What has happened to all the talent that used to be show cased on American Idol? I think during the audition episodes, the judges are seeing way too many of the untalented masses that they are not getting to see the real talent that is out there. Let's face it, every city they go to there are what 30-40 thousand waiting to audition. By the end of audition week, they must have had close to 1/2 million try out. First of all, how do they even audition that many people? Sure they must go through the screening process with the totally outrageously bad ones sent forward, while the talented ones get sent home. There must be talented people out there or are they all on Glee? Which by the way is my new favorite show. Finally a show that mirrors my life! Life after all is a musical. My daughter and I have a favorite line, which any time a word evokes a song, we always say, I feel a song coming on! This season of American Idol was full of semi-talented, I don't know what I wannabes. And what was up with Sioban? As my grandmother would say, such a pretty face, but the clothes? You don't need a get-up if you can sing. And don't get me wrong, Crystal can sing, shades of Janis Joplin and definitely born in the wrong decade as evident by that old fashion mic stand. Looked like she stole a main street lamp post and glued a mic holder to it. Busted flat in Baton Rouge. She can sing, if you like folk music. Lee's ok, with that raspy husky voice, but is it worthy for super stardom? I think not. Does he have that star quality? No, seems like a nice enough dude, but superstar? Naw. What I can say, the two finalist seem like really nice people and deserve at least some good fortune, but will they reach the stratosphere like Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood, I don't think so. My bet, Crystal, she's been the front runner all season. Ellen looks so out of sorts as the judge on the show. She seems awkward and ungainly. She should just be real and say that her opinion from a totally layman's point of view, or from a listener's point of view. It's ok that she doesn't have all the lingo down, she doesn't need to be technical, she just needs to represent what we the listeners are hearing with a little sly humor thrown in. Maybe she'll get better, but right now she looks like the geek hanging out with the cool kids.
As for DWTS, I hope Evan wins. If predictions hold true that every Olympian has won (Kristi Yamaguchi) then he deserves it. He's mesmerizing and determined. The cast this season, a yawner. The bachelor, Jake totally disappointing and I've so totally changed my opinion of him. Vienna can have him. He seems so needy and nerdy. Not at all the hunk that he started out to be. Dancing reduced him to a tottering tot. I would have liked to see Kate make it further. Come on, it needed some laughs in what was a very dreary season.-Single D

American Idol-The Winner is!

Hooray! I was so resigned to the fact that Adam Lambert was going to win this season's American Idol. After last season's rock dude David Cook winning over my choice of little David Archuletta, I was not happy that once again another rocker dude was going to win. Granted Adam does have an ok voice and could definitely sing in something like "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" or "Little Shop of Horrors" but would he be someone I would want to listen to on my ipod in the car? No! Adam is all about show and theatrics and sticking out that tongue like KISS. I prefer singers that leave that appendage in their mouths to sing. Granted Kris is not the greatest find since Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood, but he does have a quiet potential and clearly showed his would be superstar brilliance when he duo with Keith Urban in "I Want To Kiss a Girl". I was in awe, now why didn't he do that before? Kris Allen showed us that he does have the stuff and I will be listening to what he will do next. As for Adam, fans need not worry, I'm sure they will be able to catch Adam Lambert in the next production of "Phantom of the Opera" coming to a local theater near you!-Single D

American Idol-The Finale-Duel of the Davids

Let me be brief-David Archuleta wins American Idol!!!!
Well, that's the way I had imagined in my mind, but here's what happened:
Finale countdown and it's the duel of the Davids. American Idol played it off like a boxing match between heavy hitter, David Cook and the lightweight contender, David Archuleta. They even had that boxing announcer, what's his name, as ringmaster. This was really a showdown of two different styles of singing. David Cook the rocker wannabe and the soulfully pure voice of David Archuleta. I like them both and they will both be successful I'm sure. Does David Cook have the kind of voice that you will remember in the years ahead or will his fame come from rocking some really great tunes like rock bands before him. Really, no one remembers a rockers voice, they only remember the song. Can you really say that Cook has a memorable voice? Will he be remembered as one of the great singers from American Idol. Can he match the vocal skills of Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson? I think not. He'll make a great lead singer for a band, like Daughtry, but as a solo artist, not hardly. Little David does need some more maturing and experience. He's definitely wet around the edges and you can so totally see the difference in their ages. David Cook is more polish and secure on stage which in a few more years David A, will be there too. I think David A. made a believer out of Simon Cowell, as Simon was on Ellen the other day saying that he was hoping for Cook to win. That night, Simon told little David that it was a knockout declaring David A. the winner! You made a believer out of Simon and if you made a believer out of one of Idol's most caustic judges then you must be it! I didn't have a shadow of doubt that David A would not walk away with the crown, wrong! First of all, let me say that the final night of Idol was way too long, about an hour too long. I started to lose my interest right around the nine o'clock hour when I decided to go on my computer and what is on the internet, but the Idol spoiler! David Cook wins the Idol Crown it screams across my screen! What! So I quickly type in Zabasearch, this website has been predicting Idol spoilers and there on it's website it declares David Cook as the winner, stats and all. I was so disappointed that David A didn't win, that I didn't watch the rest of the idol finale. I'm sure David A will get signed on to some record deal, but it would have been nice to see this humble kid win. David Cook wasn't even interested in singing, he just auditioned on a whim and now look at him, winner of American Idol. Well, good luck David Cook, hope you're not just a flash in the pan to fade to black and white like some previous idol contestants. Meanwhile, I'm sure we haven't heard the last from David Archuleta, at least while his dad is in charge! -Single D

American Idol-Final Three

This week it's the battle of the final three-two David's and one Syesha. The evening was sort of a disappointment. I really didn't think they needed to sing 3 songs, that didn't show their vocal abilities at all. It left me wanting more, like Chinese food. I know I ate something, but I can't remember what it was. I think David Archuleta struggled last night. His song choices were terrible. I can see why his intrusive stage dad wanted them changed. The first song "And So It Goes" was alright, but his second, Chris Brown's song, which I absolutely love,"With You" was not good. I bet his dad chose that song. And the last producer's choice "Longer Than" was just ok. Big disappointment, since I'm a huge Archuleta fan. What can I say about Syesha, she looked amazing. I hated that "Fever" song-way too old for her to be singing. At least she has a great first name that can stand alone like all the other great single name artist like Cher and Madonna. I think David Cook had the better song choices, however, I'm not really a fan like I would go out and buy his CD. The judges have told David A that he needed more emotion in his eyes well what about David Cook, he always looks like a dead fish when he sings, there is absolutely no emotion in his eys. I think the final battle will be between the two Davids. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for David Archuleta, let's hope his dad keeps his golfers cap head out of David's singing!-Single D

American Idol-Final Four

Where has the season gone that we are now down to the final four, David Cook, David Archuleta, Syesha and Jason. This week it's music from the Rock and Roll hall of fame. David Cook starts the show off with "Hungry Like the Wolf"-is that a classic? It was just ok. It seems to me that all his songs sound the same. He really needs to tame the hair and have a make over. Will someone find him a comb? I thought Syesha's Proud Mary, would make Tina Turner proud, although Simon thought it was a cheap karaoke. I thought the second song was ok, although I didn't recognize that Sam Cook song. I know she's proud of her heritage, but does she have to get all weepy eye over it? Maybe it was the pressure of this whole thing. Syesha does have an amazing range to her voice and yes, all her songs sound different. I think that finally the judges are beginning to see that Jason really doesn't have the right stuff. Jason chose a Bob Marley song. Why, duh, because of the hair dude! I thought "I Shot the Sheriff" was terrible. Can you really display amazing vocals on that song? When even Paula is hesitant to like it, then you know it's really bad. I thought his second choice, "Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man" was a perfect choice. His voice reminds me of Cat Stevens, sing some Cat for us!
The show stealer of the evening was David Archuleta singing one of my favorites, "Stand By Me". I could melt! Now that's a classic. When he said that he was going to sing the Elvis, "Love Me Tender", I thought why? But his rendition of it was pure magic. I can't imagine what his voice would be like if he had both vocal chords, truly amazing! Shame on you stage Dad! He's lucky that he didn't ruin David's voice and my choice to win this whole thing! -Single D

American Idol-Neil Diamond Songs

This week it is Neil Diamond songs-is he still alive? If he is, he's really well pickled. Hey Neil, whose your plastic surgeon? This week each idoltestant gets to sing two Neil Diamond songs, are there that many? Jason Castro chose to sing "September Morn" which I think suited his corny subway voice. And "Reverend in Blue Jeans" which I absolutely hated. Hey Jason, you can still make money singing with your guitar case open in the subway stations!
I'm sorry to say, that I think David Cook is a fraud. Sorry David, but I have read that your "arrangements" to your chosen songs were not entirely your "own" arrangements. Hey, what do you say about that? The judges gushed on how innovating and entirely different and new you made certain songs sound as your own, when it was previously done by other artists. I think at least you could have given some sort of credit to your predecessors. I knew there was something artificial about him, as he doesn't come off entirely sincere. Brooke White sang "I'm a Believer". Isn't that a "Monkeys" song? Either way, I'm not a believer! Although she sounded good sitting at her piano singing "I Am, I Said". And David Archuleta picked the perfect song in "America" , he's religious and patriotic! Kudos for Simon admitting he picked the perfect song. And poor Syesha, are the judging not hearing what I am hearing through my TV? I think her singing voice is amazing, well if you like Broadway that is. Don't worry Syesha, you'll have a theatrical career at any rate.
The highlight of the entire evening though, was when our ditsy, drunk, damsel, Paula was giving her critiques on the first round of songs, and thought that Jason had already sung two songs. She rambled on and on about his two songs, how she loved it when he sang in his lower register on the first song....blah, blah, blah. I wished they would have let her mouth keep running, but the look on Ryan Seacrest's face was priceless and Randy had to rescue Paula by saying that he only sang one song. Paula was then totally confused, what? I thought he sang two songs? Paula, next time you drink before the show, make sure you sober up before going on the air! -Single D

American Idol-Andrew Lloyd Webber

I love the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, especially the "Phantom of the Opera", but those songs are so huge and can the idoltestants sing such big songs? Syesha sang "One Rock and Roll too Many". Ok I have never heard that song and it is probably best left on the Broadway stage. I must say that this is definitely Syesha's element and looks like she should be Broadway bound. I can so see her in a Broadway play-hey Oprah-how about casting her in "The Color Purple"?
Dreadlock Jason singing "Memories" was simply awful. Who can beat Streisand's version of it. Jason needs to go, his singing is just too weak and go cut your hair please! Brooke White is so cute, but her false start with "You Must Love Me" got away from her when she forgot the beginning lyric. Kinda of awkward there. David Archuleta sang another song I didn't recognize and gave it a very contemporary spin. As the camera pans to his family, there was David's dad sitting all proud like. Does he know that there are stories out there about how he is the stage dad from H.... ! Makes me think he was the one that pushed David's singing to the brink of ruining his vocal chord during the "Star Search" thing. Bad Dad! Now go home and leave David alone, he will be a star without your meddling!
Carly sang the perfect "Jesus Christ, SuperStar" and her voice is definitely big enough to carry it and she looked great in that outfit. All this season, I have not been a fan of David Cook. Every theme week, he takes a song and retools it to the unrecognizable. Last week I was saying to my husband, why can't the guy just sing the song. His reworking of every song is in my opinion arrogant and narcissistic, but this week, I was pleasantly surprised when he sang "Music of the Night". He did nothing but just plain sing and it was really really good. I was amazed at his voice. See David, you don't always have to dress up a song to make it sound good. Maybe it will be a voice off between the two Davids. Meanwhile, I'm thinking either Brooke or Jason needs to leave tonight. Sorry guys, maybe you two should team up?
Elimination night, another shocker as Carly, one of the strongest voices of the group graciously takes her exit. I still can't believe that neither Jason or Brooke were in the bottom two and managed to survive another week.-Single D

American Idol-Mariah Music

I love love love Mariah Carey music, well her music from when she did all those great hits. I'm not too crazy about her newer stuff. First up is David Archuleta singing what else, "Miracles". He sings anything that has the word miracle in it and of course he did an awesome job. Carly sings "Can't Live". I love that song but Carly did wobble on some of the notes. Good try! Brooke again at her piano which I thought was a bad choice. She rushed the song "Hero" and playing the piano took away from the song. I think she was concentrating too much on playing the music rather than singing the music. Kristie put the usual country spin on "You'll Always be the Only One". David Cook once again mesmerized the judges on his unusal spin of one of Mariah's song. For me it was just ok. I want him just to sing. But I do have to sympathize with him and the trauma of having to deal with your brother having brain cancer. So sad.
Mariah looked amazing although I wasn't too crazy about the song she sang "Bye-Bye" from her new E=Mc2. It was sad to see Kristie Lee Cook leave. Hey Kristie, maybe you can parlay this into a country career and whoever brought her horse, give it back, jeez!-Single D

American Idol-Inspirational Songs

I didn't think alot of the songs were that inspirational. Michael John's song "Dream On" was mostly a screaming rant. Hated it. I thought however, that Syesha's song was very inspirational and yet the judges still manage to give her criticisms for her lack of emotion. Hey Randy, can't you at least tell the poor girl that she does have an amazing voice. Randy was really in a mood, grouchy. He didn't like anyone except for Dreadlock Jason Castro. What are the judges on? I knew when he finished strumming that tiny ukulele which looked so absurdly silly that they would sing his praises. I do love the Israel's verision of "Over the Rainbow" , but I just think Castro's voice is so weak. Ok, maybe I just hate the hair so much I can't see the singing. Kristie Lee Cook's Martina McBride song was a perfect choice for her. She is so suited for country. And what was Paula wearing that her muffin tops were squeezed so much they looked like the third rising of bread dough? I absolutely hated David Cook's song and Simon was right in his comment that he looks so pompous in that white jacket. Carly was still sleeveless and her song "The Show Must Go On", I just didn't get it? What's so inspirational about that? Brooke White sang one of my favorite Carole King songs "You've Got a Friend." It was as Randy says, "just awright". The best of the evening was David Archuleta's song "Loving Angels". If he doesn't parlay a career in pop, he will make a great Christian singer. I had heard on the radio that David has a phlegmy breath between words and I could hear it last night, but I forgive him for that, at least he has learned to keep his tongue in his mouth.-Single D

American Idol-Dolly Parton Songs

I thought I was a big Dolly Parton fan, however, I didn't recognize any of those songs except that "Bodyguard" song by Whitney Houston. I thought Brooke singing Jolene was the perfect choice, but David Cook singing some song about a little sparrow was weird, I just didn't get it. David must have had a makeover, because he looked really good, even Paula said his haircut looked great, then again, it is Paula, she's always swayed by the male species. Jason looked like he should be singing in some subway station for tips. Oh Paula, have another vodka gimlet. Simon's comments on Jason were right on. David Archuleta had the come back song of the evening, don't know what it was, all I know it was amazing. Even Dolly Parton said that he will be a great star which she didn't say about anyone else. She knows talent! I knew Seyesha should not have chosen the most famous Whitney song of all, but she did try to do it her own way. I still think she has an amazing voice and will someday be a great talent along with Carly. Simon was right about who does the dressing for Carly Smithson. She looked awful. The thing about her is that she has those tattoos on her right shoulder arm area which is really distracting from her entire appearance. She constantly wears sleeveless tops which just emphasizes the tattoo. So when she wears something down right plain and awful it is 10 times more plain and awful when dressed up with those tattoos. Sorry, all you tattoo lovers! Maybe she'll get the hint next week, wear sleeves!-Single D

American Idol-Birth Year Songs

Another week and I missed the first 5 minutes of the show, so I didn't know what the musical theme of the evening was. It wasn't until about the 7th singer that I finally put it together and why they were talking about the year they were born. Sure makes me feel old! I definitely couldn't see a connection with the musical choices between the contestants. Let's face it, from that odd song choice of David Archuleta, what was that? It sounded like a Christian song. Now don't get me wrong, alot of Christian music sounds great, but why did he pick a song no one knew or could identify with? I guess I have to give him some benefit because being born in the year 1990, yikes he really is young, can you remember one song from that year? Either way, he did an awesome job of it. The best of the evening was and I hate to admit it was David Cook. His translation of Billy Jean was incredible, no Michael Jackson in there. Who knew it could be sung that way? He's either really talented or really smart. I can't really say that there was one singer that was the worst one of the evening, as they are improving with each week and finding their own musical stylings, but I think Kristie Lee Cook and sorry, Ramiele are the weakest contestants. I don't see any star quality about them. There's no WOW, no awesome, no wanting to hear more, sorry girls. Dreadlock Jason is just so low key, will someone give him some caffeine please! Among the best girl vocals so far are Syesha, she reminds me of a young Whitney Houston, pre druggie days and Carly. That last note of her song was awful, but I think with more coaching and training she will be an incredible singer. Michael Johns is so cute, but his song choice, "We Are the Champions" reminds me of Chicken Little singing into his spoon in his bedroom. I will never be able to listen to that song again without that picture in my mind! Brooke White looks so much better with straight hair. Don't change it! But I still don't think you have Idol star power. At this time, I think it's between David, David and Carly to win it. -Single D

American Idol-Beatles Night

I think the viewing audience probably had enough of the Beatles music last week, but as we head into this week's elimination, it's Beatles once again. The producers probably paid a pretty penny for the collection so they want to get their monies worth. I thought "Back in the USSR" was a perfect song choice for raspy hog biker Amanda. At least I could understand the words this time, or maybe it was because I knew the song already. Simon scored points finally when he told her she's becoming predictable and boring, (finally someone saying her singing all sounds the same!). She countered back that she wants to give her audience what it would be like if they paid tickets to see her in concert, which Simon countered with, isn't that jumping ahead. She apparently thinks she's really good. Well good if you like to hear the same broken record over and over. I was so happy that little David Archuleta was able to get it together this week and sang a beautiful "Long and Winding Road". His voice when he's on is so pure and simple. Someone who is definitely getting better looking as the weeks go by is Michael Johns, I thought he did justice to "A Day in the Life". Brooke White totally reminds me of Joni Mitchell but in a more buttery bland way. She looked like a fairy elf sprinkling sunshine everywhere.
Speaking of one trick pony, that is what David Cook is becoming. He's the Daughtry of this season and I'm sure he'll pick up some record label. I totally thought the voice box was Corny, say it with me Corny!
I absolutely hate "Blackbird" but Carly does have an amazing voice so she elevated that song to new levels. Another thing Carly, who does your outfitting? The rosebud top does not match the tattoos on your arms. And she got two more tats on her fingers, the number seven. What happens when later on down the line she moves up in the numbers, will she tattoo another number on her fingers?
Dreadlock Jason looked totally goofy singing "My Michelle". He looked awkward and out of place. Ramiele lose the hat and hair, hated Chikeze country version of "I Just Saw her Face" and Syesha's "Yesterday" was a beautiful ballad. I'm thinking Christy Lee Cook has outstayed her welcome and needs to go back home and ride some more ponies.-Single D

American Idol-Lennon McCartney Songbook

Finally down to the final twelve. I was sad to see Danny Noriega leave, but oh well, the show must go on. This week it's music from the Lennon McCartney songbook. Syesha started the show off great singing "Got to Get You Into My Life". Did she have a makeover or what. She looked fantastic. If she doesn't win American Idol, she should parlay her looks into some kind of modeling. Chikeze was a dynamo, a bundle of energy, but is he marketable? Two of the biggest disappointments of the evening were Ramiele and little David Archuleta. Ramiele and David seem to have lost their confidence. Ramiele was so boring, yawn. Put some umph in it girl. And will someone give her a makeover, she's still stuck in Manila. David totally forgot his words and you could tell he was so nervous and how could he not know John Lennon? Now that's really young. I think maybe he's too young for this and needs to go back to high school and try again in a few years. Polish up his act and keep that tongue in check. Dreadlock Jason was dreadful and boring. I know I told you my new favorite is Carly. Her voice reminds me of Celine Dion. One thing Carly, you look better with straight hair and don't get any more tattoos. David Cook sang one of my favorite Beatles song, "Eleanor Rigby" but he fell short in the vocals. Two people that definitely need to go home are David Hernandez and Christi Lee Cook. David just doesn't have that American Idol star quality. Christi on the hand doesn't have a clue to her own identity or vocal genre. Simon said she sounded like Dolly Parton on helium.
Amanda Obermeyer sounded like she had a mouth full of marbles. Even Simon said he couldn't understand her. And Amanda keep that Gene Simmons tongue in your mouth, it's very uncouth.
The judges keep saying that this is the best season ever for the talent, well I just don't see it. Maybe they all need some more polishing and maybe somewhere in there there's a diamond waiting to be found.-Single D

American Idol - 80's Night

Not only is it 80's night but also "what's your most embarrassing moment" night. All of the contestants are supposed to tell their most embarrassing moment. Most of these kids aren't old enough to have had a real embarrassing moment. That, or they didn't tell their real embarrassing moments. Most of them were pretty tame like Ramiele, her moment was in grade school sending a note to a boy she liked and he didn't like her or something like that. Jason's most embarrassing moment was when he was on a date and one of his dreads came off in his hand, ok that would be embarrassing. That should be a clue for you Jason to get rid of those things, you are a good looking guy, if one could get past all that dead looking hair! He did really good this week and the judges thought so too.
David A., the most promising of the bunch didn't deliver on 80's night. He has sounded much better. Maybe it had something to do with his obviously dry lips. Get that boy some Chapstick so he doesn't have to keep licking his lips, it's distracting. His embarrassing moment was when his mother had to finish a song for him because he couldn't remember the lyrics. Just before he went on stage for 80's night, Ryan tells all of America that David was thirsty and had to pee. Now THAT'S an embarrassing moment! Makes mom look pretty good about now, huh David?
Can anyone tell me why Daniel is still on Idol? He sang Tainted Love but sounded more like tainted voice.
David H. had the best, or worst depending on how you look at it, embarrassing moment. He had a photo shoot where, in every picture, he had a huge booger hanging out of his nose. EEEWWW! I still don't think he is the best singer but he did pretty good this week. David Cook I thought was awful but the judges loved him. I guess there is no accounting for taste. Of course my Aussie cutie Michael rocked the house with "Don't forget about me".
The girls did really good this week. 80's music is right up their collective alleys with the exception of Kady & Kristy and, as Simon said, Seyesha was forgetable. Brooke put a country twist on her song while Amanda and Carly rocked on. Double D
I would just like to say that my new favorite for the girls is Carly. Wow, what a big voice. I love that song "I Drove All Night", although I didn't know it was from the eighties. Were there any good songs from that decade? I can't remember a single one and certainly not that one. You can tell that Carly has a heart of gold and radiates a sweetness about her. She certainly is grateful when judges gives her a good rating unlike Amanda Obermeyer. She never shows any emotion. Hey Simon what do you think of her personality? You're quick to say that Kady has no personality when she sings, well what about Amanda who has no personality when she doesn't sing? Personally, I could never listen to a complete cd with just Amanda on it, her voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. I can't believe the judges love her. Maybe it's different in person?
Oh Danny, keep that flicking tongue in your mouth. Obviously you have dry lips, do as Double D suggest and get thee some Chap Stick! I still love you man, but chose better songs, it's all about song choice. And I knew there was something sleazy about David Hernandez, ex stripper. He just seemed too experienced for this fresh face competition. Hey, didn't idol expel some girls for racy pictures...is there a double standard here?
I was sorry to see Danny Noriega leave the contest. Where am I going to learn the latest text abbreviations, TMTH, too much to handle, love it! I like him, not his voice and I think he would have at least kept it entertaining. Too bad Luke left the group, he sure was the eye candy of the group, love his muscles, maybe he should try modeling next?
I felt bad for Asiah leaving, well at least she got the chance and I'm sure her father is smiling down from heaven on her. Keep smiling girl! Kady, what can I say, you sounded sour the night of the girls singing and your farewell song sounded sour as well. Don't listen to Paula, wearing the hat she stole from some drunk Leprechaun, saying you should pursue singing, you just can't sing. Go to college and get another career, like maybe kindergarten teacher?-Single D

American Idol-Songs from the 70's

And then there are 20, ten guys and ten girls. I get alittle squeamish when I watch the Idoltestants singing their heart out. I keep forgetting the fact that they are amatures although some do have experience singing before an audience. Luke for example, sings acapella in a group. I love acapella, you hear only the voice and not all the fluff around it. Luke sang a Queen song which was very much like Mr. Broadway. He would be perfect in Joseph and the Technicolor Coat. This seasons idoltestants are a study in hair designs. The guys and girls are really having problems with their hairstyles. There is the dueling Flipino styles of Danny and Ramiele, both sporting the Flipino side flip, although she definitely has the better voice but I hated her song this week. Then there's Dreadlock Jason, has dreads that look so dead and heavy it would be like pinching all the dead leaves off a house plant. Jason, word of advice, lose the guitar and dreads then maybe you'll sing better without all that weight. Even Paula gave you that advice. The public doesn't even know what you look like hiding behind that guitar, plus his voice is way too soft, reminds me of Cat Stevens and not idol material. Go buy a tie dye tee shirt and put some flowers in your hair. Jason Yaegar (Mr. one streak in the hair) should team up with rocker biker chick Amanda, can you say Bride of Frankenstein? You two would have little skunk haired little children together and live happily ever after. Jason reminds me of what Tom Cruise would look like if he were a singer. He is just too earnest when he sings, I just want to slap him and Amanda's songs all sound the same. Does she actually sing different songs? It's such a shame that she looks so hard with her streaked hair and that hard rocker chick persona. Her video showed a younger softer side, it's unfortunate her hair and makeup age her by 10 years or more. I think she must have skipped her kitten years for the cougar years. And Robbie, if you take that bandana off at least wash your hair.
The Idoltestant that should be crowned right NOW is David Archuleta. Let's just end the agony right now and sign him up. No one from the guys or girls can give him a run for the title, well maybe Ramiele if she can get that hair away from her face. David's rendition of Imagine made me want to weep, although Paula did that for all of us. Oh by the way did anyone notice that Paula was wearing a shoe horn around her neck on the guy's night? Bueno! It doesn't matter who gets eliminated remember these words-David Archuleta the next American Idol, now where can I buy his CD? -Single D

American Idol-12 guys, 12 girls

It's the guys night to shine as the 12 guys go on stage to sing 60's music. Ok, I hate to admit it, I'm a music dinasour, I love 60's music, motown, English invasion, rock, Elvis, what's not to love. I will lay bet that in a year or two, will any of us remember the music of today? And of couse since I love this music so much, all of it will sound like music to my ears. I can barely remember what the guys sang, but I do remember what Chikezie wore. Chikezie, dude, looks like my cousin Vinny is missing his suit. Simon absoluted hated it, which was why he didn't give you a good critique, because he was distracted. But orange, after that I was craving a tangerine. That suit distracted me so much, that I really couldn't concentrate on the song. I only remember it starting out kinda rough on the low notes, but ending up ok. You seem nice enough, now go out a buy yourself some decent duds. Colton on the other hand is not about the clothes but thinks he looks like Ellen Degeneres, and I'll have to agree. Maybe they're twins separated at birth? Hey Ellen, you need this guy on your show!
David Cook (not pictured here) sang "Happy Together" which is one of my favorite songs, maybe it was just my love for that song, but I loved it. Paula kept tripping over herself and running words together that just didn't make any sense. Oh groan, I think she's drunk. Either that or she had her hair pressed to close to her head. David Y and his "Moon River" rendition reminded me of the next Michael Buble. Love HIM! Love the song. I get so whistful when I hear that song, the vision of Audrey Hepburn in a trench coat in the pouring rain, calling "Cat, Cat!" Ah they just don't make movies like that anymore.
And now for the most horrid selection of the group, Danny doing Elvis, it was so awful I can't even remember which Elvis song he butchered, it was, Jailhouse Rock? Come on, that song was just too masculine for you. Sorry kid, but you're alittle effiminate I think you should get together with Colton, you'd make a cute pair.
Luke looked very cute, but his singing was terrible. I told my husband that he can always go back to being a carpenter, which is a noble job but he said he was a carpet cleaner? Carpenter-carpet cleaner, I can see where I got confused.
And what was up with that Leif Garrett character-singing Neil Sedeka? It was such an odd pairing! What a bad song choice. He has the look of a skateboarder dude and then chooses such a bubble gum song. Weird! Another odd choice of song was Dreadlock Jason and his strumming guitar. "What a Day for A DayDream", I can't believe the judges loved him! First of all, I hate the hair, no offense, but it just looks so dirty and heavy, how do you wash something like that? As my mother would say, too bad, he has such pretty eyes. He tries to be hip with those dreads, but comes off too vanilla. He better wake up from his daydream and cut those dreads loose.
I think the best guy of the evening was my favorite front runner to win Idol, David Archuleta. What a voice, so large for such a young kid. He looks so innocent and fresh and like Ryan said can I adopt him?
The girls on the second night did not fare any better. Almost all of them had a sever case of the nerves. First up, Kristie Lee Cook, can we drop the middle name, so country bumpkin and she sold her prize horse to audition. Let's hope she never has kids or something! Her "Rescue Me" rendition reminded me of Kathy Lee Gifford, well they both have the Lee in common.
The judges loved the rock and roll nurse Amanda. I can't stand her singing. Mostly shouting and were there any words to that song she sang, it only had one line "Please Don't Go" -one word-NOISE.
Brooke the nanny sang "Happy Together". She's very odd, shouldn't she be protesting somewhere carrying a peta sign and eating something vegan? Kady looked cross eyed, Alaina is young, Amy was flat (singing tone!) and AlexAndrea, yes emphasis on Andrea was good, emphasis on good.
But my favorite girl of the evening was Ramiele, no, not because she's Asian (Filpino) but because she has an awesome voice! The only thing is loose the Flipino style comb over, I think it's the latest look for Flipinos. When my daughter came in sporting that hair style with that ridiculous part, her best friend is Flipino, I had to put my foot down. Today the hair, tomorrow the skirt lenght, heavens! All in all, the talent is pretty even amongst the guys and girls this season, but I think a guy is going to win it.
Elimination night-the group as a whole singing together sounded fantastic, unfortunately, four are to be axed from the show. Right off the bat, our "Leif" Garrett is singled out and chopped, surprising everyone. He needed to go, don't think he has enough star power to keep them coming back. Ryan then singles out Amy, who even in her farewell song, sounded awful. Amy I don't think singing is for you. Hope you have college lined up. When it was down to Joanna and Amanda, the rock n roll nurse, I was so hoping the rocker would go home, how many ways can she sing Janis Joplin? But it was Joanna that left, unfortunately I think a vote casted on appearance. The single most surprising cut of the evening was Colton. He looked fantastic, quite a change in appearance with his hair combed back and wearing a suit, and he sounded amazing, so I am disappointed to see him leave. Simon said he shouldn't pursue a career in singing, but I think he would be perfect in "Jersey Boys". Colton, you do have a stage presence, think Broadway, you might get somewhere after all.-Single D
I was SO loving the 60's songs. Riding my bike with my little AM radio hanging off the handle bars and, later, the 8 track tape player, sorry got carried away there for a minute. All I saw this week was the guys and most of them sounded like lounge singers. I did like the spin on Midnight Hour. David C did pretty good on So Happy Together, like Randy said, he rocked it out. Another would be lounge singer Jason, didn't do bad on Moon River but I would love to hear him do a rock song. Robbie did 3 Dog Night proud singing One. David A, what can I say? So young, so talented and a looker to boot. I'm sure we will see a lot of him. Danny and Elvis should not be mentioned anywhere together in anything. He looks too much like a girl, good thing he got rid of that ring in his lip. And what was Paula rambling on about how his voice has colors. Colors?! Maybe she took 60's night a little too seriously and was smoking a little something before the show. They saved the best for last Aussie cutie Michael. He can light my fire anytime! He is my pick to win. I just want to keep around to look at! Looks like the front runners for the guys will be Robbie, David A and Michael. Due to a VHS malfunction, I didn't get to see girls this week hopefully everything will work better this week. Until next time! Double D

America Idol-Hollywood Week

I love it that the contestants are allowed to play their musical instruments during their solos. Brooke on the piano looked like Carole King, which is exactly what Simon said! See, I knew Simon and I were meant to be together! Jacob playing the drums during his solo reminded me of the wedding singer-why would you play drums during a singing audition? Ms. rock and roll nurse looks much older than her 23 years and is the rocker biker chick of the group-I'm not completely sold on her Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks persona, so it's a wait for me. And what's up with that Ghaleb fellow, he thinks he the next Antonio Bandaras or Casanova, kissing all the girls- NOT! It amazes me when some guy sings how Paula's face lights up, either she has cougar designs for him or she's thinking-Apple Martini! I thought the Irish girl did ok-but her blue tongue was distracting, did she have it tatoo as well or was she eating blue mints? I'm thinking they need to cut loose the mayor of nerdville, Kyle, omg, one word-NERDLING! Paula said he was a little corny, I'd say he was one big ear of corn. Kyle, I know you'd be better at shaking hands and kissing babies-practice political speeches, I can see you as the next mayor or something! Poor Miss South Florida Fair a victim of the wrong song, Unchained Melody, to my surprise Simon said yes. Simon dear get the wax out, Randy said no and so it was up to Paula, who was put on the spot. Everyone held their collective breath as Miss Fair pleaded and sang, sang and pleaded, and surprise, surprise, Paula said no. Well maybe one of those liquor distilled brain cells were working after all. Good girl Paula! My favorite by far was the cutie 16 year old, David Archuletta, he's got star written all over him. Let's just crown him now!
And now for a tearful farewell, to Josiah, simply a heart wrenching moment when he was cut loose, because you know the only thing he has to go back to is his car. A word of advice Josiah, go home, be a teen, enjoy these young years, get some experience, and then try out again, next time I know you'll make it!
-Single D
Nice twist being able to play an instrument during the audition. Like Simon told a few folks, don't hide behind the instrument, you need to be able to get out there by yourselves. I like the rock & roll nurse, can't think of her name right now, but I do agree with Simon that she will start sounding monotinous, think Janis Joplin, if she isn't careful.
Where did this Ghaleb come from and who told him he was a ladies man? Looks like he will kiss anyone he can get his hands on! At least Paula spoke up first, yes I was shocked, and said no to advancing him. He took it pretty well and went out and started kissing women again. As we type this, I'm sure he is kissing his way back to Miami.
Carly the Irish girl did pretty well. I too thought she had a blue/green tongue but then as I watched, it seems like a lot of people had some oral discoloration. Is it my TV or did the merry prankster producers of "Idol" put something in the water?
On to geeky Kyle. What a pick up line "so have you ever eaten deer jerky?"! I don't think I would be able to restrain myself if someone laid that one on me! My heart is going pitter-patter. Kyle, please lose the computer geek look, do you own a pair of jeans? This is American Idol auditions not geek squad!
Jeffrey the fat guy singing about food. Do you think there is an addiction here? Sorry you didn't make it, go have a cheese burger and you'll feel better.
I'm glad Aussie Michael is sticking around, more eye candy baby! Oh yeah, he can sing too. Double D

American Idol-Atlanta

Well, we finally get to see Ryan Seacrest's mom and dad-very nice-they must live somewhere near Atlanta, home of idols fame, Clay Akin and Jennifer Hudson. Ryan's parents reminded me of some political candidate couple all nicely polished and dressed for a speech. With this stop over in Atlanta, a couple of audition nods-to Asia, who made Paula cry (again)! I'm wondering was she crying because she was moved to tears, or because she hadn't had a drink since the previous night? Asia's sad story did make me more sympathic towards her even before she started singing-her dad passing away two days before this audition from a car crash. She sang in breathy tones, her voice barely above a whisper, choked and hoarse. She was passed through although if that is truely her voice, she won't last the season. Let's hope she regains her voice in Hollywood.
Then there was Josh, lover of glass, creator of glass circles and Idol hopeful, so much so, that he would throw away his beloved glass cutter if he makes it big. However, when he sang, he looked like one of those kewpie dolls that one squeezes in the middle and the eyes bug out. And his singing-aw come on guys-are you hearing what I'm hearing? I thought he was terrible, buggie eyes and all. He was so repulsive when he sang that Simon asked him to turn around to sing, so we had an audition from the derriere, you know the back of his front. How is he going to control those eyes, let alone his voice?
Next, Miss South Florida Fair, Brooke, who kissed a pig (what no frogs?) and milked a cow, said "do do" on TV, and wanted to show Simon that even a pageant winner could sing. Yikes! Should she really announce she's a pageant winner from a country fair? I think Simon had it right when he said that she was really annoying! Unfortunately, she'll probably end up the next Britney Spears or something! And finally, to the boy who lives in a shoe, I mean car. What's a matter with you? You left home and now you live in your car? You might be a free spirit, but obviously you miss your home. Well, I'm glad you are going to Hollywood, now you'll get to sleep in a real bed, watch TV and eat hot meals, like every teen your age is doing. And hey what's up with that fake British accent when you sing-do you have the same disorder as Britney, except, her's is more cockney? I think Simon gave you a pass because any British accent gives him the warm feeling of being near Big Ben. Come on Simon, who do you think you are, Henry Higgins? -Single D
OK, first up was JP who sounded like he was singing hillbilly rap. I'm not a big country fan and he was supposedly singing Rascal Flats, is that somewhere in Tennessee? Next was tear jerker Asia who's father passed away as she was enroute to her audition. Simon had a tender moment for her as Paula was reduced to tears and had to leave the stage (most likely to get a shot of vodka, I mean courage, or is that the same thing?). Then there was Miss South Ditzy, Florida Fair. This is one girl that gives us blondes a bad name! She wasn't a bad singer but, I think Randy & Simon just wanted to see her jump up and down in her tube top (see Single D's photo above). When she was done and voted through, it was a regular love fest with Miss Ditz leading the way. I really was expecting the flowers and Kum-by-ya to start at any moment.
The montage of losers was a good one, or bad depending on how you look at it, entertaining either way. And what was up with the dude with the spinner around his neck? Was he trying to be Flav-a-Flave with a hub cap? Then there was the guy in the leather skirt and Tweety Bird voice. It never ceases to amaze me, the number of people who think they can sing.
Eva and her crush on Simon was pretty memorable. "I love you Simon", "I know" came the reply. Eva started her audition and promptly slipped on her number which had fallen off of her and fell on her rear. The directors thought that deserved a slow-mo replay. Oh yea, she couldn't sing worth a darn either which prompted Simon to ask "is this a serious audition?" To which Eva responded "yes, I love you Simon, I didn't mean to fall." Simon, who really thought this was a joke, asked her to look him in the eye and tell him it was a serious audition. She did and still professed her love for him time and time again. Run Simon, run! The poor woman actually thought she had lost the audition because she fell down. No, sweety it's because you can't sing or dance! She did, however, get a hug from Simon, who I think is really just a big softy!
At the end were two memorable people. My fave, the Rock and Roll nurse. She rides a hog, she keeps it real and she can belt out a tune. You go girl! And last but certainly not least was Josiah, not sure of the spelling, but I think he has a split personality. One second he is from Tennessee and the next he is channeling John Lennon. Let's hope his car/house makes it to Hollywood. Double D
